Borderland Talk is an independent publication launched originally on my personal website in 2023 and moved to Ghost in July 2025.

I am a former Senior Patrol Agent with the US Border Patrol in San Diego, a former Senior Intelligence Agent at San Diego Sector Headquarters and a former Acting Supervisory Border Patrol Agent from 1995 to 2001. I resigned in protest due to the rampant corruption and brutality I witnessed daily. After nearly 30 years of border experience on both sides of the issues, I came to the realization that our immigration policies have created an intentional brutal system that resembles a slow-moving genocide for asylum seekers. My work and testimony has led to direct changes in border pursuit policies, exposed the rampant Border Patrol rape culture, removed the illegal and secret coverup teams used by the agency and exposed the inhumane open air detention sites that were once hidden by the federal government.

I am the author of "Against the Wall: My Journey From Border Patrol Agent to Immigrant Rights Activist" (Heliotrope Books, 2022). The book was selected as a finalist in Publishing Triangle's prestigious Randy Shilts Award, and received an honorable mention in the Los Angeles Book festival Awards. Today’s readers are finding the book quite prescient and state that it helps them understand why they are seeing immigration agents act like thugs in the streets of 2025 America - they’ve always been thugs.

Accountability

From the beginning, I stated that I would donate a minimum of 10% to migrant causes from my book sales. So cute looking back on it now. In the 3 years since the book’s release, every bit and much more has gone to a variety of groups. Currently, your subscriptions go to families who suffered at the hands of the Border Patrol, a 55 gallon water barrel and its maintenance for a year in the Sonoran Desert to save lives with Humane Borders and hundreds of books have been donated to the Border Patrol Victim’s Network to assist families in their trauma. Your subscriptions also go to helping me purchase the documents needed to conduct these in depth analyses. I have zero support outside of my book and blog sales. No grants, no help from anyone.
